Rony’s Shoulder Impingement Patient Story

I broke my right greater humerus tuberosity when I dislocated my shoulder in 2011. This injury resulted in a bone spur, a lot of pain, and ultimately caused a tear in my right shoulder’s long head bicep tendon. I was familiar with Dr. Thomas Obermeyer because he successfully performed an emergency hip replacement on my father. I was really impressed by my father’s results, so I decided to consult Dr. Obermeyer regarding my shoulder. I ultimately chose Dr. Obermeyer because, in addition to being a hip specialist, he also specializes in shoulder and joint injuries.

Dr. Obermeyer’s approach to diagnosis and treatment recommendations

After an MRI and evaluation, Dr. Obermeyer recommended that we perform a surgery to correct the impingement of my rotator cuff and biceps.  He explained to me clearly that it was the result of damage from my prior dislocation injury that left me with a problem where my acromion was pinching on my rotator cuff and biceps.  I was initially reluctant to have any surgery but based on his confident recommendation to decompress the biceps and rotator cuff tendon with a simple outpatient procedure, I had full faith in his treatment decision.  I wanted to prevent further damage to the rotator cuff by the bone spur.

Rony’s recovery journey

Now, six months after the surgery, I am back in the gym and able to use my right arm normally. I keep improving daily. I know it will be a full year before I fully recover. I had little pain after the surgery. I was out of the shoulder sling in four weeks. I am truly glad I chose Dr. Obermeyer. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Obermeyer to anyone with joint pain or a joint injury.
